China-based Geely Auto Group will soon have a presence in Canada. The company announced it has a Canadian team in place, and is in the process of setting up a retail and service network in anticipation of having vehicles in showrooms in 2027.

Last year, the Geely Auto Group sold more than 3.02 million vehicles globally, including nearly 1.69 million new-energy vehicles. Geely Auto vehicles are currently on the road in more than 100 countries and regions worldwide.

Of course, Geely has been selling vehicles in Canada for some time, under its Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus brands. But the coming incursion is expected to bring in Geely brands not sold in this country to date. The massive Hangzhou-based automaker’s large stable includes those aforementioned familiar brands, along with less recognizable badges like Galaxy, Zeekr, Lynk & Co, Proton, and Radar Auto.

And while the coming Chinese wave of vehicles set to wash ashore in the coming months and years — in addition to Geely, Chinese automakers BYD, Chery and Dongfeng are in the process of setting up Canadian ops — are expected to be all-electrics, Geely has a wide assortment of hybrids and plug-in hybrids that could well suit the domestic market. (For example, Radar makes a mid-size PHEV pickup truck that seems ideally suited for Canada.) Geely recently trademarked the “Zeekr” name for the Canadian market; and after driving the 2026 Galaxy Geome EX2 in China during a trip to the Beijing Auto Show, we speculated that the inexpensive, all-electric hatchback could be a big seller in Vancouver and Montreal.

Geely has set up a Canadian website — www.geely.ca — that it says will keep consumers informed in the coming months about developments as the company gets closer to offering vehicles for sale.
